During the Web Summit Qatar, former Super Eagles midfielder and Chelsea legend, John Obi Mikel, advocated for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen to consider a move to Stamford Bridge once the transfer window opens.
Mikel expressed his belief that Osimhen could be the missing piece in Chelsea’s quest to reclaim their former glory, suggesting that the Nigerian striker is the key ingredient needed to propel the club back to the summit of English football.
Osimhen’s potential transfer comes with a hefty price tag, with reports indicating that his release clause could reach as high as €130 million.
Despite the substantial investment required, Mikel remains convinced of Osimhen’s value to Chelsea’s squad and the potential returns his acquisition could bring.
Mikel said: “I think there’s genuine interest between both (Chelsea and Osimhen).
“I think he loves the club, he wants to come to the club, obviously he wants to follow in my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea, like Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro, there’s not a lot of us.
However, Mikel acknowledged that Chelsea faces stiff competition in securing Osimhen’s services, with both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain also expressing interest in the prolific forward.
“But he also has a lot of interest, like PSG, Man United, but I’m still pushing, sending him messages, trying to make sure he doesn’t expect too much, just narrow your mind on one club: The Blues!”
Despite the competition, Mikel’s endorsement may sway Osimhen’s decision in favor of a move to the West London club, setting the stage for a potentially pivotal transfer saga in the upcoming window.
