Janne Andersson Linked With Super Eagles Job

The prolonged search for a new Super Eagles manager could soon come to an end, as reports suggest that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to appoint Jan Olof ‘Janne’ Andersson as the team’s new head coach.

According to ScoreNigeria, the former Sweden national team manager has been selected over other candidates, including Tom Saintfiet and former Mali coach Eric Chelle.

Andersson, 61, brings extensive international experience to the role, having managed Sweden for seven years.

During his tenure, he led the team to qualification for the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 European Championship.

However, his tenure ended after Sweden failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Euros. Notably, this would be his first coaching role in Africa.

The NFF has been on the lookout for a new head coach since Finidi George vacated the position to take up the role at Rivers United.

Andersson’s immediate challenge will be to revive Nigeria’s faltering 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Super Eagles have struggled so far, securing just three points from a possible twelve and failing to win any of their four matches.
