Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is confident that Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong, and Leon Balogun will be ready for South Africa despite not taking part in full training on Tuesday evening in Asaba.
Earlier on Wednesday, Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye has dispelled fears surrounding the fitness of the trio of Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong as the team gears up for its Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa this Saturday.
The players did not train with the team on Tuesday to fuel speculation that they maybe carrying knocks picked up during league games with their respective clubs at the weekend.
“The coach excused them from training because they traveled all through the night before arriving at Asaba. So he allowed them loosen up which should not be a cause of concern. It was just a precautionary step,” Ibitoye said.
The players are expected to participate in Wednesday’s training which would be closed to the public as the team perfects its strategies before hitting South Africa on Thursday.
