Everton Manager Marco Silva is ready to hand Alex Iwobi regular first team action and as a starter, something the winger didn’t get in his time at Arsenal.
Iwobi switched to the Merseyside on transfer deadline day, penning a five-year deal to join Everton.
The 23 year-old is a big addition to the Everton project said Silva, who also welcomes the Nigerian’s experience at club and national team level.
“Alex was one of our main targets for this window and I believe he is a fantastic signing for Everton. He is a direct and skilful winger and attacking midfielder who always works very hard for his team,” Silva told the Club’s website.
“He is still young but already with a lot of top-level experience – 100 Premier League matches, more in Europe and many international games.”
Last season the Winger started 22 of 35 league appearances, but was subbed off 15 times and got only 1972 minutes.
He contributed three league goals; which has been the down side to his game and why the choice of Nicolas Pepe is a viable prospect for Arsenal’s ambitions.
Nonetheless, the Toffees are confident Iwobi will add bite to their attacking options and it will be a step up in his career.
“It was important for me to have one more quality option for our attacking positions to add to what we have with Richarlison, Bernard and Theo Walcott.
“Alex fits exactly the profile of player I want in my model. He is hungry to join Everton and take the next step in his career, to help us compete with the strongest teams in the league and reach his potential at our club.”
