Alex Iwobi is the latest Arsenal player to react to the decision of Henrikh Mkhitaryan to withdraw from the Europa League final match in Baku, describing it as “Upsetting”.
Arsenal’s Europa League title quest hit a snag on Tuesday following the decision of its Armenian player, Mkhitaryan, opting not to travel with the squad for the final in Azerbaijan, owing to safety concerns.
The absence of diplomatic ties between the two Countries and the political tension that exists forced the Player and the club to rule him out of the game, for his own safety.
In an interview, Iwobi described the situation as ” upsetting ” because the team would rather have all its best players available for the final.
‘Obviously, we want to win the title for the Arsenal and to not have him (Mkhitaryan), is a bit upsetting,’ the Nigerian attacking midfielder offered.
The Europa League final against their rival London club, Chelsea, comes up on May 29 at the Baku Olympic Stadium, Azerbaijan.
