“I’ve Improved” – Dele-Bashiru Credits Lazio Coach for Confidence After Big Win

Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has expressed gratitude to Lazio head coach Marco Baroni for his trust in the squad after breaking his seven-game goal drought.

Baroni’s side secured an emphatic 5-1 victory over Monza at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, with Dele-Bashiru finding the net after coming off the bench.

The 24-year-old midfielder was introduced in the 65th minute, replacing Gustav Isaksen, and made his mark by scoring Lazio’s fifth goal two minutes from time.

Speaking after the match, as reported by Solo La Lazio, Dele-Bashiru reflected on his performance, his goal celebration, and the support he has received at the club.

“A perfect week for me, I gave myself a wonderful moment, but the team’s victory is even more important.

There is a great group here, it’s the ideal environment. The coach believes in everyone,” Dele-Bashiru told Lazio’s official media.

He also revealed the inspiration behind his goal celebration.

“My celebration? It started with Noslin while playing FIFA. The song the fans dedicated to me? It’s something I really enjoy. The coach and the team help me a lot; I’ve improved physically and tactically,” he added.

The Nigerian midfielder joined Lazio from Turkish club Hatayspor on a season-long loan with an option to buy, with the transfer fee potentially reaching €7 million and a contract extending until 2028.

So far, Dele-Bashiru has been a key contributor for Biancocelesti, tallying five goals and two assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.

Beyond his attacking contributions, the midfielder’s tactical awareness and work rate have also improved under Baroni’s guidance, making him a more complete player in Lazio’s midfield setup.

With Lazio pushing for a top-four finish, the 24-year-old will be eager to maintain his form and continue making an impact for the team.

Lazio currently sits fourth in Serie A with 45 points from 24 games. Their next challenge will be against league leaders Napoli, as they host them at the Stadio Olimpico on February 15.

A win against Napoli would further strengthen Lazio’s push for UEFA Champions League qualification, and Dele-Bashiru will be hoping to play a key role in securing another vital three points.
