Nigeria Basketball WNT, the D’Tigress, defeated world number three Australia 75-62 in Lille on Monday.

This victory marked a triumphant start for the Nigerians in the opening event of the Women’s Basketball competition of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“I have a wave of emotions. I am so proud and excited for this group. I’ve got a lot of girls that are hungry and really shocked the world,” said an elated Rena Wakama, head coach of the D’Tigress.

“We are tough. It’s in our DNA, it’s who we are – we don’t back down and I just want to bring a lot of energy and passion,” she added.

Following this impressive win, Nigeria will next face France and Canada in their Group B fixtures.
