Nigerian duo of Isaac Success and Tom Dele-Bashiru were missing in action as Watford suffered an embarrassing 8-0 defeat at the home of Champions Manchester City in Saturday’s English Premier League game.
Watford new boss Sanchez Flores overlooked both players in their encouraging 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Vicarage road last week and the Spaniard failed to include them in the matchday squad this Saturday.
The match was the first meeting between both club since Tom Dele-Bashiru joined the Hornets from the Pep Guardiola’s side in last summer transfer window.
Success and Dele-Bashiru haven’t made any appearance so far in the league this season, with the pair only game time coming from the Carabao Cup.
David Silva, Sergio Agüero, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva (hatrick), Nicola Otamendi and Kevin De Bruyne got the goals for Manchester City, as they condemned Watford to their heaviest ever defeat in English league football.
This is the third time they’ve conceded eight goals in a Football League game (1-8 vs Aberdare Athletic in Jan 1926 and 1-8 vs Crystal Palace in Sept 1959).
