Invest In Coaches to Get Good Players – Ogunmodede

Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede has strongly criticized the league administration for its neglect of coaching development, emphasizing that this oversight is detrimental to the future of football in the country.

In an exclusive interview with Brila Media, Ogunmodede said the system treats coaching education as a joke, which is a critical shortfall for teams.

“We take coaching for a joke, and it’s a time bomb for our football,” the 44 year-old said. “We want good players, but we are not building good coaches. It’s like wanting good fruit without good farming. How is it possible?”

“The players need someone to guide them, someone to pass on this education, and these are the coaches you take for granted. You molest them, you ridicule them, you think coaches are nothing in this country. You believe these Indigenous coaches cannot make it.”

Ogunmodede underscored the necessity of investing in coaching education to elevate the standard of football.

“The point is, how many coaches are we trying to build to have good players? That is why they always think, ‘Oh, this player is a good player, let him go to Europe. In six months, he will be top-notch.’ That’s because they have the resources over there.

“Why not bring those resources here for our people to access and give it to these guys? But we don’t want to; we hoard knowledge from ourselves,” he concluded.
