Ikechukwu Ezenwa may have very well booked his spot on the plane to Russia with Nigeria although he was dropped to the bench in the international friendly win against Argentina.
Ezenwa has deputized between the sticks for the Super Eagles in the absence of first choice Carl Ikeme, for the most part of 2017 helping Nigeria qualify for next summer’s tournament.
Albeit Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has not given any assurances about his 23-man list it is believed captain Mikel Obi is a sure bet – barring injuries.
On Thursday, goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu alluded to the fact that Ezenwa had proven his worth during his audition as stand in goalie.
The 29-year-old was rested against Argentina in order to give the other goalkeepers (Daniel Akpeyi and Francis Uzoho) the stage, to test their mettle.
‘Ezenwa has played all the matches, we’ve ssen what he’s capable of and simply wanted to see other goalkeepers in that position,’ Agu explained.
