Injury Update: Plumptre Confident of Early Return for Olympic Games

Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre is close to full recovery after suffering an injury in March and undergoing surgery on her right foot.

The 26-year-old share videos documenting her recovery, expressing hopes of making a comeback in time for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“Another snippet of another weekend with Woz! Energetic and functional training,” she captioned one of her posts on social media.

Plumptre missed Nigeria’s final Olympic qualifiers against South Africa, where Nigeria won 1-0 on aggregate, thanks to a goal from Rasheedat Ajibade.

Having previously represented England at youth levels, Plumptre debuted for Nigeria in 2022 after receiving international clearance and a Nigerian passport.

She was capped for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, starting all four matches and helping Nigeria keep three clean sheets.

The team reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by England on penalties after a 0–0 draw in regular and extra time.

The Al-Ittihad defender’s return to fitness will be a significant boost for Randy Waldrum’s squad as they prepare for their first Olympic appearance in 16 years.
