Injury keeps Nigerian Striker out of UCL clash vs Celtics

Rosenborg will miss the services of Nigerian striker, Samuel Adegbenro on Wednesday, as they seek to overturn a 3-1 deficit in second-qualifying round of their 2018-19 UEFA Champions League first-leg defeat to Celtics.

Adegbenro also sat out the first-leg a week ago in Glasgow with an ankle problem as the Scottish champions rallied after conceding an early goal to make light the contest in 90 minutes.

Brendan Roger’s men scored two quick goals inside the first-half to level and take the lead going into the break.

They wrapped it up in the second half with a third goal and seized the advantage.

The Norwegian club will rue Adegbenro’s absence when the host the 1966-67 Champions at the Lerkendal Stadion, Trondheim as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.

Last season in the Europa League, the Nigerian striker scored 3 goals in 8 appearances for the club.

Interestingly, Rosenborg also lost to Celtics in the qualifying round of the Champions League last season.

Rosenborg’s last appearance in the group stage was in the 2007-08 season where they finished third in the group behind Chelsea and Schalke 04.
