Impasse over Peseiro’s Super Eagles Future, NFF weighing Options

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, have kept mum over the contract situation of Super Eagles head Coach, Jose Peseiro, who is in the final weeks of his contract.

Peseiro’s current deal expires this month, and no talks have been held with his employers, the NFF, over a new contract.

Jose Peseiro was hired as permanent replacement for the sacked Gernot Rohr in May 2022, and he took charge of eight games.

Under his watch, the Super Eagles won three times and lost five, scoring 15 goals and conceding 11.

The 63 year-old is unpopular among the fans and local media, owing the team’s lack of progress and identity since he took over.

However reports suggest the NFF are now ready to let the Portuguese leave when his $70k monthly salary contract expires at the end of this month.

Meanwhile, Nigeria is still in the middle of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and there’s been no official statement on the Super Eagles coach’s contract situation.

However, Salisu Yusuf who is first assistant, will take charge should the parties fail to agree on a short term deal.
