‘I’m Not the Coach’ – Victor Collins on Why He Didn’t Play for Super Eagles

Nigerian defender Victor Collins has expressed confidence in his future with the Super Eagles despite not making his national team debut during the last international window.

The defender, the only home-based player invited to the squad, did not feature in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Benin or the 2-1 loss to Rwanda in Uyo.

Coach Augustine Eguavoen opted not to hand Collins his debut in either match.

Speaking with Brila.net, Collins revealed his belief that his opportunity will come, citing the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and CHAN fixtures as potential chances to prove himself.

“The situation is that I am not the coach to make substitutions; he knows the best time to use me,” Collins said. “This AFCON qualifier has come to an end, and I believe I will have more chances to make my debut in the future.

“Even if it is in the World Cup qualifiers or CHAN that is coming up, I believe that with God’s grace, I will make the list.”

The CHAN Eagles, composed entirely of home-based players, are set to face Ghana in the African Nations Championship qualifiers in December. Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen is expected to release his squad list soon, and Collins is hopeful of making the cut.

For the Super Eagles, the next international fixtures will take place in March when they resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Collins will aim to secure a spot in the squad as the team looks to overturn their poor start and revive their qualification hopes.
