Ilechukwu Reveals Plans for CHAN Eagles Preparation

Assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has revealed that the team is currently on a break following their successful qualification for the 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN.

However, plans are already in place for the squad to assemble for training ahead of the tournament in February 2025.

In an interview with Brila.net, Ilechukwu, who is also the coach of Enugu Rangers, confirmed that the technical crew, under the leadership of Augustine Eguavoen, will continue to explore ways to strengthen the squad before the tournament.

Nigeria secured their qualification for CHAN by defeating Ghana, ending a six-year wait to return to the competition.

With the Super Eagles now focused on preparation, they are determined to mount a serious challenge for the title, which they have never won.

Their best performance came in 2018 when they finished as runners-up.

“Eguaveon is still incharge of the job, we plan on having a meeting to look into the area we have to strengthen the team, maybe bring in one or two strikers,” Ilechukwu explained.

Ilechukwu expressed optimism that the team’s training camp will commence in the coming days, with a focus on getting the squad in top form.

“I can’t give an exact date yet, but it will be soon—possibly within the next ten days, certainly before the 10th of this month,” he added.
