Heartland Football Club of Owerri Coach Fidelis Ilechuckwu has hailed Stephen Odey after netting his maiden UEFA Champions League goal on Wednesday night.
Odey who came into limelight under the tutelage of Ilechuckwu back in their days at the Nigeria Professional Football League side MFM FC of Lagos was on target for his Belgian KRC Genk in the Euro elites competition on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old replaced compatriot Paul Onuachu in the second half and scored his side’s only goal against visiting European Champions Liverpool at the Luminus Arena.
While reacting to the exploits of the player on the social media, Ilechuckwu described Odey as ‘ Star Boy’ and also urged to build on the morale-boosting performance for the future.
After making his mark in the Nigeria Professional Football League with the Olukoya boys, Odey left MFM for FC Zurich of Switzerland where he caught the attention of current various clubs with his performances.
Odey then joined Genk last the summer transfer window, after the Felice Mazzu’s side triggered his release clause.
