Former Nigeria international, Prince Ikpe Ekong has shared his thoughts on Victor Osimhen’s recent comments following the Super Eagles striker’s contribution in Galatasaray’s UEFA Europa League match against PAOK Thessaloniki.
Osimhen, on loan from Napoli, provided yet another assist in the game but is still awaiting his first goal for the Turkish giants.
Despite being heavily involved in Galatasaray’s attack, two of his previous efforts have been counted as own goals.
In the team’s 3-1 win over PAOK, Osimhen was substituted in the 78th minute, making way for Mauro Icardi, who found the net in the 5th minute of added time.
When asked about his relationship with fellow forwards Mauro Icardi and Michy Batshuayi, Osimhen expressed his satisfaction with the team dynamics.
“Mauro Icardi and I have a very good relationship. He’s a leader in the locker room. Michy Batshuayi is a very good character. I’m so happy to be at Galatasaray. We’re helping out as a team. If I’m not, they’re there. We’ll keep winning as a team,” Osimhen said in an interview with *Fanatik*.
Speaking on Brila FM’s, “No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze'”, Ikpe Ekong praised Osimhen’s professionalism but emphasized the reality of competition within teams.
“The truth is, as a player, you don’t want your competitors to do better than you, but at the same time, you don’t wish them bad.
“You want things to go well for them, but even more better for yourself. That’s the reality. It’s all about managing that competition and handling it properly,” Ekong stated.
He further praised Osimhen’s approach, saying: “He handled the situation well, showing that it’s all about teamwork, and we’re proud of him.”
