One month after Casillas suffered a heart attack during a Porto training session, The legendary goalkeeper was watching on from the stands during the Portuguese Cup final and was brought to tears in the stands after a team-mate paid tribute to him after scoring a crucial goal in the Portuguese Cup final.
After opening the scoring, Porto star Tiquinho Soares celebrated his goal by holding up the No 1 goalkeeper’s shirt of Casillas just four weeks after the former Real Madrid man suffered a heart attack.
The forward then placed the shirt down on the turf before performing a bowing motion.
The 38-year-old has been recovering ever since and has been advised by medical officials to retire from the sport.
Porto’s hope was short-lived however, after losing in agonizing fashion on spot kicks to see their great rivals take a 5-4 victory on penalties and claim the cup.
