Kelechi Iheanacho has thrown his support behind Finidi George to take over the helm of the Super Eagles as the substantive head coach, following Jose Peseiro’s departure.
Finidi has assumed temporary leadership of the Super Eagles for the friendlies against Ghana and Mali.
Under the former Assistant coach, Nigeria secured a victory over Ghana – their first win against the rivals in 18 years.
“The coach (Finidi) has done a great job, it’s short time for him to work with us,” Iheanacho offered. “It’s just only him at the moment. Hopefully, he will get more chance with the team.”
Finidi George, who is also coach of NPFL side Enyimba, has reportedly applied for the Super Eagles head Coach role.
Others in the running are Emmanuel Amuneke, Sunday Oliseh, Ndubuisi Egbo.
