Super Falcons striker, Ifeoma Onumonu made her debut for Montpellier Féminines in their narrow 1-0 victory over Reims at Stade Bernard Gasset Terrain on Saturday.
The 30-year-old forward, recently signed by the French club, was strong in the team’s home win.
Onumonu nearly opened her account just three minutes into the match when her right-footed shot from the center of the box was blocked, following a clever assist from Léa Khelifi.
Seconds later, Montpellier took the lead with a stunning strike from Judith Coquet. Her right-footed shot from outside the box found the bottom left corner, again assisted by Khelifi.
In the 71st minute, Onumonu was involved again, setting up Sonia Ouchene, whose effort from a tight angle was also blocked.
Onumonu was eventually substituted in the 83rd minute, making way for Kentissia Bacoul-Juillard.
The Nigerian Forward’s transfer to Montpellier marked a significant moment, as she became the first Nigerian player in the club’s history.
After mutually parting ways with National Women’s Soccer League side Utah Royals, the striker joined Montpellier as a free agent.
Injuries and national team call ups limited her appearances in the NWSL, but she wants to write a different story in the French top flight.
