I was underrated at Chelsea — Mikel Obi

John Mikel Obi believes he didn’t get the credits he deserved from Chelsea fans, but was more valued in the Super Eagle.

Mikel spent 11 seasons at Chelsea, winning many laurels before leaving the club.

During his time at the club, the midfielder was criticized for simplistic style of football and questioned his contribution to the Chelsea team.

“Most for Chelsea fans, I think, i was underrated. But I was doing my work and enjoying my football.

“At Chelsea we have big names like Lampard, Terry, who are taking the headlines every week, He said in the latest episode of Dubaieyes podcast.

Speaking further, Mikel said it was a different at the national team as he was appreciated by the fans.

“But for the national team, I was the talisman and integral part of my national team. I won as player and a leader.”

The 2013 African Cup of Nations winner also explained why, he didn’t get more credit from the fans and English media.

“It was something that I had to struggle with, especially after having a great game and then no one talk or write about it and then John Terry, Lampard or Drogba does one thing, they are all over the news paper.”

“But you’ve got to understand the system, and what you have to do, to make the news every week, which I don’t want to talk about on air,” He concluded.
