I started playing as a midfielder — Paul Onuachu reveals

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu revealed he started his career, playing as a midfielder in the academy.

The Lanky made the revelation in an interview with Belgian media outfit Eleven Belgian.

“I started my career as a midfielder and played a couple of games there and when I started growing, I realized being a striker would be perfect for me, and ever since, I haven’t looked back”

Onuachu first played for FC Ebedei in Nigeria, and it was the club that changed his career path in the round leather game, before moving to Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2012, on a scholarship.

He became a prolific scorer for their youth team and was handed his first-team debut in the Cup later that year.

A league debut followed, in December 2012, before penning his first professional contract with the club in June 2013.

Onuachu spent 7-years in Denmark, and his time with Midtjylland was a success. He left for Genk in a €7m deal after netting 51 league goals in 134 appearances.

He endured a difficult start to life in Belgium as he contributed just seven league goals in his first season.

The second season however was far better as he smashed almost all the goal records in the division and won all the individual awards in the 2021-2022 season.

He followed it up with another interesting performance in just concluded the season with 24 goals in all competition for Genk.
