I Only Wanted Chelsea! Mikel Obi On Failed Man United Deal, and Kidnap

Former Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi recently opened up about the highly publicized transfer saga between Manchester United and Chelsea that kept him out of action for almost a year.

The issue, which involved both English Premier League giants, was eventually resolved, allowing Mikel to join Chelsea on June 2, 2006.

Mikel described the relief he felt once the matter was settled. “It was a massive relief. Obviously, it was going on for almost a year, I couldn’t play for any club because of the whole saga,” Mikel shared during an appearance on the Obione Podcast.

Mikel stated that Chelsea was the club he truly wanted to join, and once the move was finalized, he was eager to get started.

“I just couldn’t wait to be unveiled as a Chelsea player because it was taking such a long time to get settled,” he added.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Mikel had a successful career with the club, where he won numerous titles including two Premier League trophies, four FA Cups, a Champions League, and a UEFA Europa League title, making him one of the club’s most decorated players.
