Watford FC salvaged a valuable point in their English Championship clash against Coventry City on Saturday, thanks to a crucial goal from Tom Dele-Bashiru.

Coventry struck first, taking an early lead, but the host team came out stronger in the second half.

Dele-Bashiru, a former Flying Eagles midfielder, netted the equalizer to secure the draw, giving Watford a well-earned point.

Speaking to the club’s media after the game, Dele-Bashiru emphasized the importance of improving his goal-scoring ability.

“”I need to add goals to my game, so I’m pleased to get one today, and I think it was a fair result in the end,” he said.

In his entire club career he has managed 16 goals and 22 assists in 172 games.

The midfielder also reflected on his growing partnership with Moussa Sissoko, lauding the former Tottenham star for his leadership qualities on and off the pitch.

“Playing with Moussa is great. He’s a great leader on and off the pitch, a good guy and he’s always giving advice,” he added.

Just like his younger brother, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, the Midfielder also made his mark in English football, coming through Manchester City’s academy.

As for Older Dele-Bashiru, his journey saw him leave Manchester City in 2019 when his contract expired, signing for Watford soon after.

In 2021, he was loaned to Reading, but injuries limited his appearances. He returned to Watford in 2022, where he continues to battle for more game time.

Though he once represented England’s U-16 team, Dele-Bashiru has also made his presence felt on the international stage for Nigeria.

He was part of the Nigeria U-20 squad at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, where he scored the Super Eagles’ third goal in a 4-0 win over Qatar during the tournament’s opening match.

As Watford look to climb the Championship table, Dele-Bashiru’s determination to sharpen his scoring instincts could prove pivotal.
