Chelsea’s new signing Carney Chukwuemeka has cleared the air on his Nationality.
The young midfielder signed for the Blues from Aston Villa in a deal that was worth close to £20m.
The 18-year-old has played for England at the youth level, but he acknowledged the fact he remains a Nigerian, as his name suggests.
“Of course I’m Nigerian. My name says it all and I have strong ties with the country due to my parents. I watched their teams play when I am opportune. I am familiar with most of the players in the team as well”, he said.
Chukwuemeka is still available to represent Nigeria at the full international level, despite playing for England.
However, it is unclear if the Nigerian FA will try to convince the player to follow the footpath of Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, and other players who dumped England for Nigeria.
