Former Lobi stars and NPFL goal maestro has described his decision to join the top Tunisian team, Stade Tunisien as a step in the right direction that will help improve his career and prepare him for the bigger leagues.
Appreciative of his time in the NPFL, Sikiru who scored 4 goals in the 2019/2020 NPFL season before his move in January told brila.net that the move was not planned.
“The move was kind of sudden, though they have been monitoring me for a while and the Coach of Stade Tunisien was really interested as he liked my work.
“But I had to think about it as I had others offers from NPFL teams, Capetown FC in South Africa, an Israeli based team, USA second division team, FC Tulsa Roughnecks, so I had to weigh my options and also pray about it.”
Deciding to join the Tunisian League, Sikiru said he didn’t want to rush things by going all the way to a foreign league, rather want to take it step by step, also the presence of other Nigerian players from the NPFL also influenced his choice.
“Integrating into the team and style of play has been tougher than I expected, the league is tougher and different from the Nigerian league, they are very tactical, they have a unique style of play very different from what we have back at home, but I’ll keep training and I believe with time I’ll get used to it.”
He also expressed his optimism that his former team, Lobi stars will eventually emerge as champions of the 2019/2020 season.
