Victor Osimhen paid tribute to Achraf Hakimi and Mohammed Salah, but insists he deserves to be crowned best player in Africa.

Osimhen beat the Hakimi and Salah to the Africa’s biggest football individual prize at the CAF awards ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday.

“I’m delighted to win the award and bring it back home,” Osimhen said after becoming the first Nigerian to win the award in 24 years.

“What was going through my mind?, I was confident I’m going to win because I had good campaign with My club and national team.

“Mohammed Salah and Achraf Hakimi also achieved great things with their team. They were exceptional for their clubs and countries.
“But I had a great season. So I deserve it like any of them. So I’m happy.

Osimhen guided Napoli to its first league title in 32 years, scoring 26 goals in 30 league matches.​

The 25-year-old also scored five times as Napoli reached UEFA Champions League quarter final for the first time in its history.

At national team level, Victor Osimhen topped the African Cup of Nations qualifiers scorers’ chat with ten goals for the Super Eagles.
