How We Were Treated by the Super Eagles Players – Ogunmodede

Super Eagles assistant coach and Remo Stars gaffer, Daniel Ogunmodede, has highlighted the warmth and respect he and his colleagues continue to receive from both players and backroom staff in the national team.

Ogunmodede, alongside Rangers International coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, was appointed as interim assistant coach in September under interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen to oversee preparations for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The coaching team successfully guided the Super Eagles to top their qualification group with 11 points, securing a ticket to the tournament.

Addressing a common perception that Super Eagles players often disrespect indigenous coaches, Ogunmodede described his experience as overwhelmingly positive.

Speaking on No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze on Brila FM, he commended the players’ attitude and professionalism.

“Before joining the national team, I also heard stories about indiscipline in the Super Eagles,” Ogunmodede admitted. “But when we arrived, we were met with so much love and respect. The players are thorough professionals.”

He also praised team captain William Troost-Ekong for fostering unity and ensuring the coaches received the respect they needed.

“The captain assured us that the players would give us their full respect and attention as trainers. In the end, it was the players who motivated us. It felt like we had been together for a long time.”

Backing Lookman for CAF Player of the Year

The Remo Stars coach also voiced strong support for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman to win the CAF Player of the Year award.

The ceremony is set to take place on December 16 in Marrakesh, Morocco.

“He [Lookman] more than deserves it,” Ogunmodede stated. “He’s a top talent and has proven his quality consistently.”
