Skipper Ahmed Musa nominated Simon Moses to lead the Super Eagles out against Sao Tome and Principe in the last 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
With Troost-Ekong missing in action due to injury and Ahmed Musa and Leon Balogun not starting, it was unclear who will lead the team.
According to Nigerian football journalist Olawale Quadri who covered the game, Musa spoke to Coach Jose Peseiro and nominated Simon Moses to lead the team.
Simon reportedly then at the airport in Morocco before the team’s departure from Morocco appreciated Ahmed Musa for the gesture.
Simon scored one of the goals and assisted two as Super Eagles trashed their opponents 10-0.
The Nantes winger, however, became the first and only Super Eagles player to captain the team to a 10-0 away win with a brace of assists & a goal.
Nigeria winning would not come as a shock, the surprise was the goal margin, against The Falcons and True Parrots.
The Super Eagles will face the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in their next game in the qualifiers in September.
