How Chairman vs Coach palaver ruined Akwa United

Akwa United suffered a 4-1 humbling away to El Kanemi Warriors during the NPFL match at weekend in Maiduguri, but the drama wasn’t just on the pitch and brila.net have learnt that Head Coach Rafael Everton had a spat with the Club hierarchy.

In the build up to the weekend clash, sources at the club revealed that Everton clashed with chairman, Paul Bassey over what the Brazilian considered interference on the job.

It was learnt that the Coach had been summoned by the Chairman to discuss his selection ahead of the game against El Kanemi, a situation that didn’t go down well with the 2016 Aiteo Cup winner.

He stormed out of the practice session and didn’t join the team until three hours before the match in Maiduguri.

On the day Akwa United, who were top of group B, looked disjointed, lacked color or rhythm on the pitch and although they showed a little resistance, it soon gave way as they suffered their biggest defeat in the NPFL since 2014 against FC Taraba.
