The Confederation of African Football, CAF has announced Wednesday, January 15, as the date for the 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN draw ceremony.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s 26 home-based players are set to begin camping on Monday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne to prepare for the tournament.
The draw ceremony will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
It will determine the group-stage opponents for the home-based Super Eagles, who are making a return to the competition after a six-year absence.
Nigeria secured their spot in the tournament with a 3-1 aggregate victory over archrivals Ghana during the qualifiers, marking a significant comeback to the CHAN stage.
Preparations Underway in Ikenne
To kick off their preparations, stand-in head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has invited 26 players for a camping exercise at the Remo Stars Stadium.
The training camp is expected to refine the team ahead of the tournament, which is reserved exclusively for players who compete in their domestic leagues.
The 2024 CHAN will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, offering a new dynamic to the competition.
Despite being one of Africa’s footballing powerhouses, Nigeria has yet to win the CHAN title.
Their best performances include a third-place finish at the 2014 edition in South Africa and a runners-up spot in 2018, where they lost to hosts Morocco in the final.
As the home-based Eagles prepare for another shot at glory, the team and fans alike will hope for a historic triumph in the upcoming edition.
