Barcelona suffered their first-ever Liga F defeat at the Estadi Johan Cruyff as struggling Levante claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory on Saturday, ending the Catalan club’s incredible 46-game unbeaten streak in the league.
María Alharilla broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, silencing the home crowd, before Ivonne Chacón doubled Levante’s lead in stoppage time despite relentless Barça pressure.
Fridolina Rolfö pulled one back late on, and Levante’s Ainhoa Bascuñán was sent off, but the visitors held on to secure a famous victory.
Barcelona had not lost a Liga F match since May 2023, when Madrid CFF defeated them, and had never suffered a league defeat at the Estadi Johan Cruyff since its inauguration in 2019.
Despite registering an astonishing 47 shots, Barça failed to find their usual cutting edge.
Coach Pere Romeu made a flurry of substitutions, introducing star players including Alexia Putellas, Ewa Pajor, Clàudia Pina, and Mapi León, but even their presence couldn’t turn the tide.
Putellas, in particular, missed a golden chance to level the game before Chacón’s counter-attack goal seemingly sealed the result.
While Levante move to within two points of safety, Barcelona remain eight points clear of Real Madrid at the top of Liga F, though their aura of domestic invincibility has been shattered.
