On Monday evening, the Super Eagles will take on Guinea Bissau in an Africa Cup of Nations game, to the regular fan it’s just another matchday, but looking through the history books, this is Nigeria’s 100th game in the continental showpiece.

The century landmark has been hit by three countries before Nigeria, namely; Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana.

Only one of these trio, Cote d’Ivoire, won their landmark game, and coincidentally it was against aforementioned Guinea Bissau.

Nigeria’s all-time record in the AFCON boasts 54 wins, 23 draws and 22 loses – Only Egypt has more wins in their first 100 games.

The Super Eagles also have 30 cleansheets to their AFCON pedigree, joining Egypt and Ghana as the only teams with that many shutouts.

Meanwhile, Nigeria is making its 20th appearance in the Cup of Nations, and have more medals than any other nation in the Competition’s history (15), despite winning the tournament only 3 times.

Similarly, Nigeria has the most third place finishes in the history of the AFCON, with 8 bronze medals.
