DR Congo striker Real Betis forward Cédric Bakambu has named Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman as his favorite to win the CAF African Footballer of the Year award, citing the Nigerian’s remarkable performances for both club and country.

Speaking with Sporty Show, Bakambu praised Lookman’s achievements, noting that while Egypt’s Mohamed Salah is in excellent form, the Atalanta forward has done enough to succeed his compatriot Victor Osimhen as Africa’s best player.

“It’s difficult because now Mohamed Salah is playing very well, but if I have to choose, my opinion, I’ll say Lookman, the player of Atalanta.

He deserves it, but after, we will see,” Bakambu said.

Lookman has enjoyed a standout year, excelling for Atalanta and the Super Eagles.

The winger played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s historic Europa League triumph last season, becoming the first player to score a hat trick in a Europa League final. His efforts secured the trophy for the Italian club.

On the international stage, Lookman shone at his debut Africa Cup of Nations after switching allegiance to Nigeria.

His goals were instrumental in helping the Super Eagles reach the final of the 2023 tournament.

This season, the 26-year-old has continued his impressive form, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists across all competitions for Atalanta.

The CAF African Footballer of the Year award ceremony will take place on Monday, December 16, in Marrakech, Morocco, where Lookman will hope to claim the prestigious title.
