Victor Osimhen’s SSC Napoli missed out on the Champions League for a second successive season after a final day draw against Hellas Verona at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Sunday.
Osimhen featured for the duration of the match, but he was unable to make the difference on a day the Azzurri’s needed a hero.
Napoli went into the match needing three points to be assured of a place in the Europe Elites competition next season, irrespective of the results from other centers.
After a poor first half, Napoli increased the tempo a bit in the second half and wee duly rewarded with a goal from Amir Rahmani.
The lead, however, lasted for six minutes as Hellas Verona fought back to equalize through Marco Davide Faraoni.
The Gennaro Gattuso’s side were unable to score the important second goal before the final whistle and they eventually miss out on the top four by a single point to Juventus.
The result was a bitter blow for Napoli and they will be competing in the Europa League next season.
