Sevilla head coach, Garcia Pimienta has expressed confidence in Kelechi Iheanacho’s ability to start scoring goals as he adapts to his new environment.
The Nigerian forward joined Sevilla this summer after his contract with Leicester City expired, but his transition to the team has been less straightforward than anticipated.
Initially expected to secure a starting position, the 27-year-old has struggled to find consistent game time, featuring in only four out of Sevilla’s seven league matches this season.
He has started two games and come off the bench in two others.
Following Sevilla’s 2-1 victory over Valladolid where his compatriot Chidera Ejuke scored a late winner Pimienta commented on Iheanacho’s performance.
““I think he’s (Iheanacho) put a lot of effort and intensity into it, but he hasn’t been very good in front of goal, but this is a process. You have to adapt to the position, I think Iheanacho has done a good job,” Pimienta said.
“But he is a boy who has to give us something, because he has a lot of quality, he has a lot of experience in the Premier League and he has shown the quality he has.
“He has to apply himself like everyone else and show the level he has, which I am convinced he will give.”
As Sevilla prepares for their next match against Athletic Bilbao, Iheanacho will be eager to reclaim a starting spot, especially with Isaac Romero sidelined due to injury.
The upcoming game presents an opportunity for Iheanacho to solidify his position within the team.
