He gives Ajax strength and speed”, Dutch legend praises Bassey

Frank De Boer has heaped praises on Calvin Bassey for the Defender’s impressive start to his career with Ajax Amsterdam.

After an unfortunate start at Ajax, where he got sent off in the Dutch Super Cup game against PSV, Bassey has gone on to be integral member of Alfred Schreuder’s side.

The Nigeria international has formed a solid partnership with Jurrien Timber, and together they’ve helped the club keep clean sheets in the last two Eredivisie games.

Following last weekend’s 4-0 victory over Cambuur, where he assisted one of the goals, De Boer said that he has been impressed with what Bassey brings to the team.

“I’ve been really impressed by Bassey. He was unlucky to be sent-off in the Super Cup. He started the game well and we have already had the people who thought he was just a big lump, charging around kicking people, changing their opinions.

“He gives Ajax strength and speed and on the ball he’s alright. Of course he can still improve on that part of his game but I think he showed in the last few games that he’s undroppable. Together with Jurrien Timber, they make a great couple in defence.

Like Bassey, De Boer featured for both Ajax and Rangers in his playing days, and won league titles with both sides.

The Dutch legend however tipped Bassey to become an important player for Ajax in nearest future.
