Handball: Nigerian Women on the Rise – Ocheho

The Handball Federation of Nigeria president, Sam Ocheho has expressed his excitement over the Country’s Under-18 Women’s bronze medal finish at the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship.

Nigeria beat Angola 28-24 in the third place match at the recently concluded Championship in Tunisia.

 

 

In a chat with BRL, the Handball Federation boss reiterated his commitment to the development of the sport especially among the young ones.

“This podium finish is something that I’m very happy about,” said Sam Ocheho.

“I mean, we’ve been to the World Cup before, youth team men, they’ve been to the podium bronze medal. Also, we’ve seen our junior men, also winning bronze medal at the African Cup of Nations. But our female, in recent times, have not achieved that.

“These young ladies that two years ago were playing at under 12, under 15 levels. Now they’ve risen to the point of a podium finish at the African Cup of Nations for Females.

“I am so happy, I’m so glad. It shows that we are doing the right thing. It shows that we continue to focus on youth development. We’ll surely begin to have podium success at the senior level. So I am very happy, I’m excited.”

“I’m happy with what the girls did. I’m happy with the quality they showed. I’m happy with the level of display that they showed. So in terms of my overall feedback on the tournament, it’s a pure success.”
