Guardiola will Coach Super Eagles for the Right Price – Duke Udi

Former Nigerian player Duke Udi has given his take on the profile of the next Super Eagles coach.

Speaking on Brila Media’s “No Holds Barred” with Ifeanyi Udeze, the former Midfielder emphasized that while the team is full of talent, they need a coach who can influence their mentality.

“Super Eagles need a coach with personality. There is a difference between a coach and a coach with personality,” Udi explained.

“You can bring a coach from France or anywhere, but if he doesn’t have personality, it will still be the same. When you bring a coach with personality, the players know they can’t try anything with him. When we had Westerhof, he had a personality from Holland.”

The former Super Eagles player also pointed out that the NFF is not at fault and is committed to seeing the national team flourish.

“NFF is not the problem, but the coaches they are bringing. NFF wants to take Nigerian football to the next level because they will then relax, be happy, and enjoy the game. But when there is no money to bring in a coach with personality, what will NFF do?”

“You want to hire Guardiola, but who will pay the money? If the NFF president had his way, he would love to bring Guardiola because it is a matter of pride, but where is the money?”

Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola.

Udi highlighted the financial constraints, adding, “That’s why they will just bring any coach and pay $30,000 or $40,000, and the players will talk to them anyhow.”

Duke Udi represented the Super Eagles from 1998 to 2002, making four appearances.
