Golden Eaglets world cup qualification hopes thwarted by Burkina Faso

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets failed to qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup, losing out to Burkina Faso in Algiers on Thursday evening.

The Nduka Ugbade’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the quarter-final of the CAF U17 African Cup of Nations which also doubled as the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Aboubacar Camara scored a brace for the Junior Stallions to earn them victory in the tightly contested duel at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.
The Eaglets dominated the game but like previous outings, they were let down by prolificacy in front of goal.
They struck the work twice and forced two good saves out of the Burkinabe goalkeeper within the opening 15 minutes. Burkina Faso later settle into the game and took a shock lead just before halftime.
The Junior Stallions increased their lead in the second half from the penalty, before the Eaglets pulled one back late in the game.
The defeat ended the Golden Eaglets’ hopes of a 13th qualification to the FIFA World Cup and the search for a record-extending third African.
Burkina Faso won the title in 2011 and will be seeking their second crown.
