Former Super Eagles stars Julius Aghahowa and Pius Ikedia have showered praise on Victor Osimhen, describing him as one of the greatest strikers Nigeria has produced, following the milestone achievement of his 200th career goal.
The duo, both of whom enjoyed successful careers with the Nigerian national team, highlighted Osimhen’s fighting spirit, work rate, and relentless attitude on the pitch, qualities they believe set him apart and place him among the elite forwards to have worn the green and white jersey.
Speaking on Osimhen’s rise and impact, Aghahowa expressed long-standing admiration for the striker, noting similarities between Osimhen’s style of play and his own days with the Super Eagles.

“I have been a big supporter of Osimhen right from time. I have always spoken well about his dedication. He reminds me of when I used to play for the Eagles — the way he fights and struggles. Those are the attributes I like about players.”
Aghahowa, however, was careful to place Osimhen’s achievements within the broader context of Nigerian football history.
“When it comes to rating players, every player comes from a different generation. Different generations have players who contributed greatly to the success of the national team and to their personal careers. You can’t really compare one generation to another because each generation has its great players.”
“In general, I will say Osimhen is one of the greatest players to come out of Nigeria. That’s how I will summarise it. He still has a lot to achieve for himself and for the national team. If he continues this way, he can become the greatest.”
Pius Ikedia also praised Osimhen’s mentality and intensity, drawing parallels between the striker and Aghahowa’s playing style.
“When I watch Osimhen play, he reminds me of how Julius played in the past. He is a fighter, he never gives up, he is always on the run and gives everything.”

“I am a big fan of him. I love to watch him play. Like Julius said, he still has areas he needs to work on in his game, but he will be one of the best strikers if not the best we have right now.”
Osimhen’s 200-goal milestone further cements his status as one of Nigeria’s most prolific forwards, with his performances at club and international level continuing to draw admiration from past and present football greats.
