Sudan claimed a crucial 2-0 victory over Ghana in a Group F Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Tuesday, leaving the Black Stars’ chances of reaching the tournament in serious doubt.
The match, held at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benina, saw Ghana needing a win after a goalless draw in the reverse fixture.
The Black Stars dominated the early stages but failed to convert their chances, with Mohammed Kudus coming close to scoring on several occasions.
Despite Ghana’s pressure, the first half ended in a stalemate. Sudan took control after the break, breaking the deadlock in the 61st minute with a goal from Ahmed Al Tash, who scored from close range.
Just four minutes later, Mohamed Abdelrahman added a second, sealing the win for the Falcons of Jediane.
With this result, Angola leads Group F with 9 points, followed by Sudan with 7. Ghana now sits in third place with just 2 points, ahead of Niger, who has 1.
Sudan is just a point away from securing qualification, while Ghana must win their remaining two matches against Angola and Niger, hoping for Sudan to drop points in their final games to keep their qualification hopes alive.
