AS Monaco continued their unbeaten start to the Ligue 1 season with a 3-1 victory over Le Havre, marking their fourth win in five games across all competitions.
The home side took the lead in the 9th minute when Takumi Minamino set up Jordan Teze, who finished with calm precision. Le Havre responded in the 30th minute with an equalizer from Daler Kuzyaev, bringing the score to 1-1 at halftime.
Monaco regained control after the break, with Eliesse Ben Seghir slotting home following a precise through ball from Wilfried Singo.
Super Eagles-eligible forward George Ilenikhena, who was included in the starting lineup after his match-winning performance against Barcelona, provided a stunning assist for Folarin Balogun to secure the win with a composed finish.
At just 18 years and 34 days old, Ilenikhena broke the club record set by Kylian Mbappé, who was 18 years and 63 days when he scored his first goals for Monaco.
According to BBC, Ilenikhena became the first player in Champions League history to score against the same team in successive matches but for different clubs, having previously netted for Antwerp against Barcelona last December.
With his impressive potential and first goal for Monaco in only his fifth appearance, the Super Eagles of Nigeria may want to move quickly to secure Ilenikhena’s commitment.
