Genk boss Wouter Vrancken has opened up on Paul Onuachu’s role in his team, after the goalless draw against STVV on Saturday.
With Onuachu fit and available, Vrancken overlooked him and picked 19-year-old Andras Németh to lead the attack.
Németh had a great game but was unlucky not to cap the performance with a goal for the Limburgers.
The youngster was substituted after 65 minutes and it seemed like a no-brainer to bring in the Onuachu, but Wouter Vrancken chose Ally Samatta, who recently rejoined the club on loan as a replacement for Paul Onuachu.
At the press conference afterwards, Vrancken however explained the reasons for his substitution.
“I wanted to play out of the game for as long as possible. With a Leistner in the center of the defense at STVV you should not lie. You also saw that in our chances with Paintsil: from go into the duel and then make the action.”
“With Samatta I brought a more running striker between the lines”, continues Vrancken.
“At the end you still try and bring Onuachu. It was just a search for the right profile and I needed more of Samatta’s profile,” He concluded.
Onuachu has featured in four games for Genk this season and he’s yet to score a goal.
