Former coach of Nigeria’s U17 national team Manu Garba has questioned the rationale behind the emergence of Moroccan Achraf Hakimi as Africa’s Young player of the year over the Nigerian duo of Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze following Tuesday night’s CAF awards.
Garba speaking in a chat with brila.net discredited the process and questioned the criteria used in selecting the eventual winner of the award stressing that the exploit of any one of the two Nigerian players in the year 2019 under review is good enough to have earned them the Young player award.
“As for me I dont know the criteria they used for that Young player of the year award but I think either Victor Osihmen or Samuel Chukwueze are good enough to have gotten that award.
“But in life everything has to do with destiny, maybe they are not destined to have gotten the award, I am not even being sentimental because they are Nigerians, they have played so well, they have proven that either one of them could have gotten that Young player of the year award.”
