Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Bassey Akpan joins Kano Pillars

Ahead of the 2021-2022 Nigeria Professional Football League Season, Kano Pillars have signed goalkeeper Bassey Akpan.

The former Akwa United shot-stopper joined as a free agent and he put pen to paper for a two-year deal.

The former Super Eagles goalkeeper signed his contract, few days after Coach Musa Ibrahim penned an extention with the club.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper has played for many teams in the country, including Sunshine Stars, Bayelsa United, Heartland, Kwara United and Enugu Rangers.

He also represented Nigeria at different levels and won 10 caps for the Super Eagles Team B.

At the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago in 2001, Akpan was voted best goalkeeper of the tournament due to his heroics in goal, despite the Golden Eaglets losing 3–0 to France in the finals.

Akpan was named in the Super Eagles’ preparatory squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup by Coach Lars Lagerback, but did not make the final squad.
