Former Nigerian boxer, Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ Okorodudu has passed.
Okorodudu, a former Middleweight Boxing Champion, died on Wednesday night at a private hospital in Lagos, Nigeria.
He had been battling a foot ulcer that had left him bedridden for several weeks.
Emily, Jerry’s daughter confirmed the news of his passing to Brila FM.
“He was sick, he had diabetes and that was what led to his death. He is at the morgue already.”
Remi Aboderin, the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control and President of the West Africa Boxing Union, also confirmed the passing of the Olympian.
“It is unfortunate that he died this way, and I am actually lost for words. May his soul rest in peace,” he remarked.
Jerry Okorodudu proudly represented Nigeria in the middleweight category at Los Angeles, 1984 Olympic Games.
He showcased his skills and talent on the international stage, leaving a lasting impact on Nigerian boxing.
Furthermore, Okorodudu achieved success at the Oluyole 1979 National Sports Festival in Ibadan, where he won a gold medal.
His achievements in both national and international competitions have contributed to the legacy of Nigerian boxing.
