Forest Receives Boost as Awoniyi Returns to Training

Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, has provided Nottingham Forest with a significant lift ahead of their upcoming fixture against Sheffield United on Saturday.

According to Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo, the Nigeria International returned to full training this week and is in contention to feature against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

“He (Awoniyi) was out all week. He started today with the group so let’s see if he has this positive feeling. I think he can help us,” Santo stated at his pre-match conference.

“He joined the team today, he had good feelings, we still have to wait for tomorrow to see how it goes. And if he feels okay like he felt today, I think he can definitely help with his experience, he’s a goalscorer.”

“We are aware and we know that he’s not in his top level but definitely a helpful player for us in these final moments.”

Awoniyi has struggled with injuries throughout the season but has managed to start 13 games across all competitions for Forest.

The Striker’s return comes at a desperate time for Forest, who are now in the relegation scrap – they survived the same last season through the Nigerian’s tenacity.

Despite his injury setbacks, Awoniyi has been productive when on the pitch, having scored six goals and provided three assists across all competitions this season.
