Football family in grief as Timi Ebikagboro passes on

The Nigeria Football Federation has expressed shock and sorrow at the death on Friday morning of Nigeria U23 team’s Media Officer, Timi Ebikagboro.

Ebikagboro passed on Friday morning from complications arising from cancer of the stomach.

The respected broadcast journalist was an integral part of the backroom staff of Nigeria’s U23 squad that won the Africa U23 Cup of Nations in Senegal in December 2015 and picked Nigeria’s only medal – a bronze – at the Olympic Games in Brazil in August 2016.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick, a personal friend of the late Ebikagboro for close to 40 years, was in deep shock on Friday.

“This is devastating. Apart from the good work that Timi had done with the U23 team, we have been friends for the past four decades.

“I knew he had cancer of the stomach and we were making efforts to fly him abroad before this tragedy.

“Early this morning, his wife (a medical doctor) called me and said he complained of stomach pains, and then started gasping for breath before he gave up the ghost. I am heartbroken.”
