Nigeria international Josh Maja has revealed his excitement after scoring his first career hat-trick when Girondins Bordeaux demolished Nimes 6-0 in Tuesday’s French Ligue 1 encounter.
The Super Eagles forward was superb on the night scoring his side’s opening three goals to begin the flurry of goals for the Navy blue-and-Whites at the Stade Matmut Atlantique Stadium.
The 20-year-old put his side ahead in the 24th minute, doubled the lead 13 minutes later and netted the third in the 53rd minute to the join Peter Odemwingie, John Utaka, and Victor Agali on the exclusive list of Nigerians with a hat-trickin the French top-flight.
While Nicolas de Preville’s efforts in the 58th minute and Otavio’s brace in the 76th and 87th minutes ensured a comprehensive victory forPaulo Sousa’s side.
Speaking after the game, Maja expressed his delight and praised his teammates for their efforts on the night.
“I feel good, I’m very happy to get my first hat-trick for Bordeaux and in my career,” Maja said.
“Of course, it’s a great night for the team, it’s three points and we performed very well and are going to keep working and go into the next game with confidence.”
The one-cap Super Eagles player has now scored five French Ligue 1 goals in 14 appearances for Bordeaux so far this season.
